Abstract

Plants are vulnerable to a variety of abiotic stressors, including heavy metals, floods, salinity, drought, cold, and heat, all of which have negative effects on plant growth, reducing agricultural output, generating food security issues, and resulting in economic losses. Nanotechnology has several potential benefits for modern agriculture, including increased water efficiency, reduced disease in crops, better food security, less pollution, and longer-term sustainability. The use of nanomaterials in agriculture offers a special opportunity to improve crop output and maintain soil health. This can be accomplished through increasing the content (chlorophyll) and effectiveness of photosynthesis, as well as managing plant diseases. Nanoscale agrochemicals, such as nanoherbicides, nanofertilizers and nanopesticides have lately gained popularity as promising plant-enhancing technology. Some studies have identified negative impacts of toxicity and the influence of these innovative materials on environment, despite the fact that nano materials have been reported extremely favourably in terms of soil health and agricultural output. This chapter discusses advanced research and possible uses of nanotechnology on soil health and fertilizer management for agricultural production. This chapter clarifies the role of nano fertilizers in soil health management and crop yield.
