Soil pH and its Functions in Plant Nutrient Uptake and Restoration
Keywords:
Soil pH, Biogeochemical cycles, Consequences, RemediationAbstract
Soil biogeochemical processes are very sensitive to soil pH in their native habitat. Plant development and biomass output are affected by a wide range of soil biological, chemical, and physical characteristics and processes, with soil pH serving as the "master soil variable" that impacts all of these aspects. Soil pH influences processes that are interdependent on the soil's biological, geological, and chemical components; this research also explores how these processes, in turn, cause changes in soil pH as a result of human activities. This research takes a different approach than previous ones by examining the consequences and interactions related to soil biogeochemistry rather than the many sources of soil pH, especially soil acidification. We begin with a discussion of how soil pH influences material availability, movement, and biological activities in soil, and then go on to the biogenic control of soil pH. We conclude that soil pH has two main applications: soil remediation (bioremediation and physicochemical remediation) and nutrient cycling and plant feeding.
